In this article, I will be reviewing the eMeet M2 max, which is the higher-end model of the wireless speakerphone I introduced previously, the eMeet M2.

What is a wireless speakerphone?
A wireless speakerphone is a tool that combines a speaker and microphone capable of wireless connection. By using a speakerphone, it becomes easier to have stable and comfortable communication, even during web conferences with a large number of participants.
Personally, I think this is a gadget that has seen a significant increase in demand as teleworking and online meetings have become more widespread.
While you can substitute by using a microphone or speaker, using a speakerphone is definitely the best option when considering sound quality and sound pickup. Especially since there are limits to the sound pickup of microphones and speakers built into PCs, it is essential when you have a large group gathered in a meeting room for a web conference with another meeting room.
So today, I will be introducing the eMeet wireless speakerphone, the eMeet M2 max.

- 360-degree omnidirectional
- Supports a very large number of people
- Capable of echo cancellation & noise cancellation
- “Position detection function” that automatically detects the direction of the speaker and picks up sound clearly
- Can output sound with a resolution as high as a CD
- Heavy and not very suitable for portability

The “eMeet M2 max” features 360-degree omnidirectional pickup, supporting up to 15 people. For a speakerphone, directivity—which means the direction from which it can pick up sound—and sound pickup capability, which refers to the range in which it can pick up sound, are particularly important.
Connection methods include both wired and wireless. Furthermore, wired supports AUX and USB, while wireless supports Bluetooth connection and Bluetooth connection via a USB dongle.
As for features, VoiceIA, eMeet’s proprietary voice signal processing technology, enables echo cancellation and noise cancellation. With speaker performance sufficient for multiple people to hear clearly, and a “position detection function” that automatically detects the direction of the speaker to pick up sound clearly, it helps facilitate smooth and comfortable communication!
Additionally, it has a sampling frequency of 48kHz/16-bit, allowing it to output sound with a resolution as high as a CD, surpassing the “eMeet M2” in terms of sound quality as well.
However, due to its high performance, it is heavier, and the “eMeet M2” is superior in terms of portability.

User Experience
Regarding sound quality and volume
I tested it by connecting it to Google Meet.
The sound quality is worlds apart from the sound of a PC’s microphone or speakers. The clarity of the sound is completely different.
You can clearly feel the effects of the echo cancellation and noise cancellation.
Since only the speaker’s voice is heard cleanly, I was able to focus on the web conference without any discomfort.
During the test, I was alone in a 6-tatami mat room, but the volume felt quite loud even at the minimum setting. At maximum volume, it was so loud that if you were close to it, it would hurt your ears. Honestly, because the sound is so loud, I think it is not well-suited for use in small rooms or with a small number of people. Conversely, I think it would be very useful for large meeting rooms or when used by a large group.
Also, when I changed the volume on the connected PC, the speakerphone side would light up in a way that made it easy to understand, so I felt reassured that I was properly adjusting the volume.
Regarding the position detection function

The LED lamp lit up towards the speaker. It’s reassuring to know who the device recognizes as the one speaking when there is a reaction.
Regarding connection
Wired connection supports AUX and USB, and both responded without any problems. There was little lag, and I didn’t feel any particular stress.
Wireless connection can be done via the USB dongle or Bluetooth.

In the case of a connection via USB dongle, the connection was completed just by plugging it in. It’s extremely simple and easy to understand as you just plug it into the USB port.

In the case of Bluetooth connection, I initially had to configure the pairing with the “eMeet M2 max,” but for subsequent uses, I could connect smoothly without any trouble at all.
For both connection methods, there wasn’t much difference in sound quality compared to the wired connection. However, there is, as expected, a slight lag compared to wired.
Also, I was able to use it not only with a PC but also with a smartphone via Bluetooth connection.
Comparison with the previous model

| eMeet M2 max | eMeet M2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Directivity | 360-degree pickup | 360-degree pickup |
| Capacity | Max 15 people | Max 8 people |
| Sound Quality | Very good | Good |
| Volume | 5W | 3W |
| Noise Cancellation | ||
| Echo Cancellation | ||
| Weight | 615g | 290g |
I compared them in the specs section, but I would like to compare them more deeply here.
Speaker
Compared to the previous model, the speaker has certainly been enhanced. The maximum volume has increased from 3W to 5W. The volume can be made incredibly loud.
The drawback is that it is loud even at the minimum volume. With the previous “eMeet M2,” it could be used without difficulty for individual use or use in a small room, but that is not the case with this “eMeet M2 max.” It is completely oriented towards use by large groups, so if you are thinking of using it with a small number of people, you should definitely choose the previous “eMeet M2.”
Conversely, if you are thinking of using it in a large meeting room or with a large group, I think this “eMeet M2 max” is more user-friendly.
Also, I’m not sure if there are people who require that level of sound quality for meetings, but comparing the sound quality, this “eMeet M2 max” is also better.
Microphone
I feel that the sensitivity adjustment has become even better than before. Perhaps because it is designed for use in large meeting rooms, I feel that this “eMeet M2 max” reacts more sensitively to even quiet sounds.
Portability
The previous “eMeet M2” was a weight that could be carried around easily, and it wasn’t a weight that you would notice much even if you put it in a bag. However, this “eMeet M2 max” feels like it has a weight that is quite noticeable, or rather, I definitely feel it is much heavier compared to the previous model.
Echo & Noise Cancellation
The echo & noise cancellation by eMeet’s proprietary voice signal processing technology, VoiceIA, in the previous “eMeet M2” was also very good, but this “eMeet M2 max” is even better.
Capacity
The previous model also supported a large number of people at 8, but this model supports up to 15 people, and if you connect two units, it can support up to 30 people.
Other
A 3.5mm stereo jack, which was not in the previous model, has been added. This allows you to listen to sound using earphones, etc.
Also, this model has rubber anti-vibration treatment applied to the back surface.
Summary

- 360-degree omnidirectional
- Supports a very large number of people
- Capable of echo cancellation & noise cancellation
- “Position detection function” that automatically detects the direction of the speaker and picks up sound clearly
- Can output sound with a resolution as high as a CD
- Heavy and not very suitable for portability
The “eMeet M2 max” is a speakerphone specialized for use in large meeting rooms and for use by large groups. It is quite expensive, but I felt that in terms of performance, it is at the industry’s top level.
For those who have opportunities to gather in one place in large numbers for web conferences at work, it is quite expensive, but I think it is better to buy this one without being stingy.
Also, personally, if you want to make the most of the potential of this eMeet M2 max, I recommend a wired connection rather than a wireless one.
Recommended for these people
