Amazon Fire HD 10 (11th Gen) Review: A Big-Screen Tablet

In this article, I would like to review the 11th generation “Fire HD 10” from Amazon, which was released in 2021.

Design

Actual Usage Experience

The screen and resolution are perfectly fine for watching videos

The “Fire HD 10” features Full HD, making it larger and higher resolution than other Amazon tablets.
Therefore, the screen is naturally easier to view and looks better.

Of course, you cannot watch 4K videos or view photos and images with higher resolutions, but it is harsh to expect that from a tablet at this price point.

I watched anime on Amazon Prime Video while on the go using the “Fire HD 10,” and I was able to watch it comfortably without any complaints.

Supports microSD cards up to 1TB

Since it supports microSD cards up to 1TB, if you make use of a microSD card, I don’t think you will be troubled by lack of capacity, even with the 32GB model.

This expands the range of uses, such as downloading plenty of Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Prime Music content.

Supports split-screen display

While the previous model could only handle single-tasking, the evolved current model (11th Gen) supports split-screen display.

Being able to use two apps at the same time, such as typing an email while looking at a browser, is a welcome feature!

Cannot use Google Play via official methods

Because Fire tablets are developed and sold for Amazon services and content, the use of rival Google services and content is not intended. Therefore, you cannot use Google Play via official methods.

Apps can basically only be installed via the Amazon Appstore. While orthodox apps like Instagram and Twitter are often available, there are many cases where apps that were on the Google Play Store are missing.

In particular, Google-related apps like the YouTube app and Google Maps are all missing. (There are “fake” ones, though.) You can use them via a browser, but it is extremely tedious.

Not powerful enough for gaming

As you can tell from the specs, the performance is not capable of running games properly.

Or rather, it’s wrong to expect gaming-capable performance from a tablet in the 10,000 yen price range (lol).
Of course, there are many game apps in the Amazon Appstore, but only a very few can be played comfortably without stress.

Conclusion

If you are willing to commit to specific uses like video viewing, it is definitely worth it

The “Fire HD 10” is a super-affordable tablet.

It is not a tablet that can do everything comfortably, like playing games smoothly or drawing beautiful art like an Apple iPad.
Because of its price, you can only bring out its benefits for limited uses, but in other words, it offers tremendous cost performance if used for those limited purposes.

Personally, I plan to use it for watching Amazon Prime Video. If I cover the lack of capacity with a microSD card, I can keep a lot of videos downloaded on the tablet.

It is also recommended for uses such as giving it to children, as it is cheap and durable.
