Actual usage experience
Sound quality… Overall, emphasizes power
- This evaluation is completely subjective.
When I first used the “Anker Soundcore P40i”, the first thing I felt was the strength of the bass.
The bass is focused on power and weight.
So conversely, the depth and delicacy are not so great.
Mr. GadgetI think it goes well with rock and other upbeat genres.
But it might be a little lacking for ballads (laughs)
However, it’s not that there’s no depth or delicacy at all, so I don’t think there are any particular genres that it doesn’t work well with.
Also, the high frequencies have a slightly sharp feel.
It’s not piercing, but it doesn’t have a smooth, extended feel.
The mid-range is difficult to hear due to the strong bass and high frequencies.
Mr. GadgetBut don’t worry, you can adjust it a bit with the equalizer function I’ll introduce later!
Supported codecs are normal for this price range.
The supported codecs are SBC and AAC.
Mr. GadgetI wish it supported more, but it’s about what you’d expect for under 10,000 yen.
Here are the characteristics of each codec
| Codec | Characteristics |
|---|---|
| SBC | The most standard codec. Basically, all devices support it. Sound quality and latency are average. |
| AAC | Frequently used by Apple products such as iPhones. Android 8.0 or later generally supports it. Better sound quality and lower latency than SBC. |
| aptX | Mainly adopted by Android. Better sound quality and lower latency than SBC and AAC. |
| aptX LL | LL stands for Low Latency. It has even lower latency than aptX. Sound quality is the same as aptX, but latency is less than 0.04 seconds. |
| aptX HD | A high-quality codec that supports high-resolution sound. It has slightly higher latency than aptX. |
| aptX Adaptive | aptX HD was stabilized and made low-latency. Changing from a fixed bit rate to a variable bit rate has made processing more stable and reduced latency. |
| LDAC | A super high-quality codec developed by Sony. The highest sound quality among those introduced. Android 8.0 or later generally supports it. It has 3 sound quality modes: quality priority, connection priority, and balanced. It has higher latency than SBC. |

Noise cancelling adapts to surrounding noise

The “Anker Soundcore P40i” is equipped with Anker’s original Ultra Noise Cancelling 2.0 technology.
This technology allows it to automatically adjust the strength of noise cancelling based on the level of surrounding noise.
Mr. GadgetIf the noise cancelling is too strong, it can be uncomfortable, but this function prevents that.
Ms. GadgetIt’s a high level for under 10,000 yen!
Sometimes the operation is unstable
In my environment, the noise cancelling function sometimes becomes unstable.
For example, the noise cancelling stops working altogether.
Mr. GadgetIt’s annoying because you have to turn the noise cancelling off and on again to fix it.

Ambient sound mode… It’s usable, but not natural
To be honest, it doesn’t feel natural.
There are more natural ones in the same price range.
However, you can definitely hear the surrounding sounds, so you can hear announcements on trains, etc.
Mr. GadgetIt feels like it’s picking up sound from outside with a microphone.
Battery life is amazing!
The playback time of the “Anker Soundcore P40i” is as follows:
・Normal mode: up to 12 hours (earphone body only) / up to 60 hours (with charging case)
・Noise cancelling mode: up to 10 hours (earphone body only) / up to 50 hours (with charging case)
・Call: up to 7 hours (earphone body only) / up to 35 hours (with charging case)
Mr. GadgetIt’s incredibly long! Amazing!
Ms. GadgetEven if you use noise cancelling, this length is very satisfying!
